Multi-media immersive programme at purpose-built centre on the Humber. Though based on a wind power-themed scenario developed with Ørsted, Thrive is relevant to renewables, maritime and a range of other sectors.

Thrive is a one-day interactive, multi-media programme designed to transform behaviours and attitudes to safety. The programme is delivered at a purpose-built centre close to Immingham Docks on the UK’s East Coast.

Thrive was used by Ørsted to induct all personnel working on the Hornsea Two offshore wind farm project. Thrive is available to any organisation that aims to empower their whole workforce to be safety leaders.

About the Day

Though set in a fictional company, and in a wind power environment, the themes and issues raised at Thrive are designed to resonate with any organisation that has office-based support functions and an operational front-line.

Part 1: A hard-hitting, multi-media scenario examines the build up to a fatal incident on a load-out operation and its consequences. High-quality production values and industry-leading audio-visual technology, deliver a powerful immersive experience for participants.

Part 2: Practical Safety LeadershipTM skills workshop. A theory-light, practical-heavy exploration of the critical role of communication in workplace safety. The workshop gives people a new understanding of their own behaviour and its impact on colleagues, as well as practical communication tools to take back into the workplace.

We hope that other industries across the Humber will utilise this new exciting resource which aims to bring about behavioural changes in attitudes towards safety.

Jason Ledden, Ørsted Senior Construction Project Manager for Hornsea Two

The bit that’s different is the engagement of emotion - that is just in a different league. It connects people with the serious impacts of getting things wrong in a way that is very difficult to do with traditional desktop training.

Duncan Clark, Head of UK Region, Ørsted

This programme works because it brings together the best human elements, it’s a hearts and minds approach. Thrive changes your perspective and mentality - it’s a lightbulb moment that will keep coming back to participants.

Lutuf Shah, Lead QHSE Manager, Hornsea Two

The most valuable 8.5 hours I’ve spent in a long time. In my opinion it equips the attendee with a set of tools to help transform behaviours and attitudes towards safety. Without hesitation I will deploy these skills as and when required.

Vince Weavers, Project & Contract Manager, Ørsted

ABP is one of the largest employers in the region and the UK’s leading port operator with a network of 21 ports across Britain. Safety is a core value at ABP and the Thrive safety leadership centre is an integral part of ABP’s Behavioural Safety Training programme.

Henrik Pedersen, CEO, Associated British Ports

I leave with a feeling that when my team and others have completed this they’re going to feel more empowered, and certainly have a stronger belief in themselves to challenge unsafe acts

Danny Walker, Head of Race Bank Offshore Wind Farm

Very relevant. A large number of the HSE failings that were discussed have happened during my nine years in the offshore industry. Very well thought-through and put together.

Thrive participant

‘The session was delivered in such a different way. It was very effective and enjoyable and certainly made me think about how I contribute to a safety culture. A massive well done to all involved, it was a fantastic day.

Rob Howes, Learning and Development Specialist, Ørsted
